New York Yankees Phenom Gleyber Torres Continues to Shine on the Biggest Stage (Baseball Essential)


The New York Yankees breezed past the Minnesota Twins in the American League Division Series, sweeping them in the five-game set. They were ready to play from the get-go, scoring 23 runs in just three contests. Now, although there were many different guys who did their part offensively, 22-year old Gleyber Torres, without a doubt, led the way for the Bronx Bombers. In just his second big-league season, the former top prospect hit .278 with 38 home runs and 90 RBIs in the regular season. Surrounded by big-time power bats like Gary Sanchez, Edwin Encarnacion, and Aaron Judge, among others, Torres led the Yankees in home runs. He’s quickly becoming a franchise player in the Bronx and an all-around big leaguer who can get it done both offensively and defensively.

Torres has continued to terrorize opposing arms in this postseason. He hit .417 against the Twins, going 5-for-12 with a home run and four RBIs. Four out of his five hits were for extra bases, smashing three doubles along with a solo bomb in Game 3 to get the scoring going for New York.
