Posnanski: So about that intentional walk in Game 2… (The Athletic)

The Houston Astros are in trouble.

How’s that for analysis? They are in a disastrous but not quite inescapable predicament: Teams have come back from 0-2 deficits in the World Series before, even when losing those first two at home.

But the Astros are in a particular kind of trouble. It goes beyond the mathematics of needing to win four out of the next five games. The Washington Nationals have crushed their spirits. They have knocked around the Astros’ indomitable aces. They have allowed some solo homers but not much else. They have won over most of America thanks to their Baby Shark joy, and the glorious brilliance of Juan Soto and their affable underdogness.

And there’s also the matter of the Astros’ grotesque inability to simply admit that an assistant general manager shouldn’t be screaming at women over his profane joy that the team traded for a player who only became available after he was arrested for domestic assault.
