Mets, Drew Gagnon Reportedly Working On KBO Deal (MLB Trade Rumors)


The Mets and righty Drew Gagnon appear to be moving towards a deal to allow the pitcher to move to the Korea Baseball Organization in 2020. Naver Sports recently reported the news (Korean language link); h/t Mike Mayer of MetsMerized (via Twitter).

Gagnon was bombed in brief MLB action last year, falling victim to the leaguewide home run surge even more than most of his fellow pitchers. (11 long balls in 23 2/3 innings.) But he did show an 11.8% swinging-strike rate in the bigs. And over 88 2/3 innings in 15 starts in the tough International League, he worked to a 2.33 ERA with 7.3 K/9 and 1.7 BB/9.

If an agreement can be wrapped up today, it would open an additional roster spot for the Mets. The club has three free slots on its 40-man already but could well desire another to protect prospects who’d otherwise be eligible for selection in the Rule 5 draft.

For Gagnon, this move would surely be preferable to another season shuttling between Triple-A and the majors. The 29-year-old,…
