Smith was responsible for several clutch at-bats and memorable moments in his rookie campaign. The young catcher recently spoke with Louisville news outlet WDRB about his debut season.
“It was a fun year. A great rookie season. It’s truly a dream come true.”
It was a combination of his success in the major leagues and love for his home that led the University of Louisville alumni to return to his hometown early in November for the Barren Heights Retreat Gala held at the Louisville Marriott East.
Smith credits baseball with helping him help kids realize the dreams their parents had for them, according to WDRB.
“It just gives me that stage to get here and kind of help raise more money for this cause,” he said.
