Yankees feel good rapport with Gerrit Cole after free-agency meeting (New York Post)

Yankees officials left Tuesday’s meeting with Gerrit Cole feeling a good rapport between the sides and that the team had presented what New York and the organization could offer to the ace righty.

No financial terms were discussed because there is an understanding that if the Yankees are this interested in a player that they are not afraid to go to the top of the market. The recognition is that could be true for other teams such as the Angels and Dodgers too and, therefore, what will matter is where Cole — an Orange County native who still lives there — wants to play for most of the next decade.

That is why the Yankees group headed by Brian Cashman, Aaron Boone and new pitching coach Matt Blake felt it more important to sell New York, the Yankees brand and what the organization could do for Cole as a pitcher and for his family off the field.
