Mets signing Michael Wacha to one-year deal (New York Post)

The Mets are closing in a one-year deal for righty Michael Wacha, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported on Wednesday. Wit incentives, the deal could end up in the vicinity of $9 million.

He’ll help fill out the back of the rotation, one of the points of emphasis for GM Brodie Van Wagenen this offseason after seeing Zack Wheeler head to the rival Phillies. The Mets currently have a top three of Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Marcus Stroman.

Wacha is currently a CAA client, the same agency Van Wagenen worked for before taking over the Mets last season.

The 28-year-old went 6-7 for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2019, starting 24 games and coming in as a reliever in five. A 2012 first-round pick — the Mets passed on him to draft Gavin Cecchini at No. 12 — Wacha has spent his entire seven-year MLB career with the Cardinals up to this point.

He burst onto the scene in the 2013 playoffs, dominating his way to NLCS MVP honors by tossing 13 2/3 shutout innings over two starts.
