Pete Alonso is channeling his inner-Broadway Joe.
On Saturday, the record-setting Mets star stepped out for date night with fiancée Haley Walsh wearing a red fox fur vest, which was reminiscent of the wild fur coat Jets legend Joe Namath wore at Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014. Namath wore a similar style on the sideline in 1971.
Alonso, 25, dined at The Polo Bar with his eye-catching attire, before attending the dress rehearsal of “Saturday Night Live,” which was hosted by Eddie Murphy, in his first appearance on the show in 35 years.
Unsurprisingly, the National League Rookie of the Year also attracted the attention of curious tourists during his Midtown stroll in front of Radio City Music Hall.
The first baseman was a breakout star for the Mets in 2019. His 53 home runs led MLB and set a new rookie record, and he appeared in the MLB All-Star Game.
Alonso is clearly taking to his newfound stardom, much as Namath did decades ago, and is immersing himself in the city.
