CC Sabathia is going to be a special advisor to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, The Post has learned.
The role is expected to be one of significance with Sabathia wanting to have a big front office presence in his post-playing career.
As part of Sabathia’s new Yankees role, there are talks to also make him part of the YES Network’s Yankee broadcasts. Nothing is finalized.
The interesting part of this equation will be if he will work with Michael Kay. Sources said that Sabathia is not a fan of Kay’s. The issue is apparently about some of Kay’s commentary on games through the years.
If Sabathia ends up in the Yankees booth, he is not expected to have a heavy amount of YES games. Kay is the TV voice of the Yankees, so it still may be difficult to avoid Kay’s games.
Sabathia is close with YES’ other play-by-player, Ryan Ruocco. The pair host a podcast together.
In May, Sabathia told The Post he would not wear a suit and tie to call games. It is unclear if he or YES will relent on that desire.
