Buck Showalter, John Gibbons interview for Astros managing job (New York Post)

The Astros have quickly picked up their search to replace A.J. Hinch.

Former Yankees manager Buck Showalter interviewed with Houston on Wednesday and ex-Blue Jays skipper John Gibbons was coming in for an interview on Thursday, The Athletic reported.

The Astros fired Hinch, along with GM Jeff Luhnow, on Monday following MLB’s findings in the sign-stealing scandal that has rocked the sport. Both men were suspended for a full season before Houston’s decision to ax them. The Red Sox also have a managerial opening after firing Alex Cora on Tuesday night for his prominent role in the controversy.

Showalter, who has also managed the Diamondbacks, Rangers and Orioles, was a candidate for the Phillies job that went to Joe Girardi this offseason. Showalter, 63, last managed for the Orioles in 2018.

Astros owner Jim Crane is temporarily taking over Luhnow’s duties.
