Mookie Betts trade chaos around obvious Brusdar Graterol issue (New York Post)


It’s been three days since news broke that the Red Sox were trading star former MVP Mookie Betts, along with pitcher David Price, to the Dodgers as part of a three-team deal that included the Twins.

The mega-deal is still not complete.

Part of the deal included Twins right-handed pitcher Brusdar Graterol going to the Red Sox, who were just waiting on medical records. Boston didn’t like what they saw on the 21-year-old prospect.

MLB Network reported that talks would continue Friday between just the Red Sox and Twins, but “movement has been slow.” Boston is now pursuing a second top prospect or more money in addition to Graterol, per The Athletic.

The Red Sox reportedly now view Graterol, who underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016, as more of a reliever now that they’ve seen his medical history. Originally, the organization hoped he would compete for a spot in the starting rotation.

The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported at the end of last month that the Twins had already planned to deploy Graterol as a reliever in order to protect his arm.
