Kris Bryant tees off on the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal: ‘Worse than steroids’ (The Athletic)

MESA, Ariz. — In an alternate universe, maybe the Astros would have taken Kris Bryant with the first overall pick in the 2013 draft and he would have been confronted with a decision to join Houston’s trash-can-banging scheme or try to stop the “Codebreaker” program.

Instead, Bryant fell to the Cubs at No. 2 and the rest is baseball history. For all the questions about the trade buzz and Bryant’s losing service-time grievance — which dominated Saturday’s media session at the Cubs’ Arizona complex — remember this has been a spectacular business relationship.

Bryant also has a clear conscience after earning the National League’s Rookie of the Year and MVP awards and a 2016 World Series ring. Deep down, the 2017 Astros will never know if they would have won the World Series without cheating.
