Yu Darvish is convinced the Astros don’t deserve to be World Series champions.
The former Dodgers pitcher took much of the blame for the team’s 2017 loss to the Astros, in which he lost Games 3 and 7 lasting 1 2/3 innings in both starts.
“It’s like the Olympics,” Darvish told reporters from Cubs spring training on Sunday. “When a player cheats, you can’t have a gold medal, right? But they still have a World Series title. It [feels] weird.”
The Astros were found to have used a video sign-stealing system throughout the 2017 season that aided their run to the franchise’s first championship. Shortstop Carlos Correa defended the team’s postseason run in an interview with MLB Network, saying they won the World Series with “no cheating on the road.”
Correa was responding to Darvish’s former teammate, Cody Bellinger, who claimed that the Astros stole the World Series from the Dodgers and Jose Altuve did not deserve the AL MVP over Yankees slugger Aaron Judge.
“So they cheat, I think they shouldn’t talk right now,” Darvish said. “Some people lost their job. They have to show more apology. I don’t feel anything from those guys.”
