The Dodgers will not be getting a comeback story that they were hoping for this Spring Traning. Many fans were hoping to see Yadier Alvarez back in a Dodgers‘ uniform, but that may not happen. Los Angeles designated Alvarez for assignment on Saturday afternoon.

This comes on the heels of news that Alvarez was shut down and would receive more testing. He was supposed to come into the game on Friday afternoon, but could not get loose in the bullpen. As a result, he ended up being a very late scratch in that game.
Los Angeles would have had to make a decision on him quickly regardless, with him coming off of the restricted list. The Dodgers would have needed to add him to the 40-man roster by Opening Day, and the roster is already tight.
Alvarez at his peak could pump out 100+ mph fastballs with plus potential breaking stuff. His struggles with control on the field and off ultimately led to him leaving the team last year.
