Aaron Boone said he was leaving spring training due to coronavirus concerns earlier this week, but a few Yankees continue to work out at Steinbrenner Field.
Among them to show up Thursday was DJ LeMahieu, who told reporters he plans to remain in Tampa during the shutdown rather than return to his home state up north.
“All the gyms in Michigan are closed and it is cold,” LeMahieu said, according to Post beat writer George King. “It’s nice to be outside and working out. I think this is the best place to be right now.”
Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar, Tyler Wade and Mike Ford also were among the Yankees seen arriving at the spring-training complex Thursday. GM Brian Cashman also remains in Tampa.
“I guess personally we’re doing OK. But it’s a serious situation I don’t think anyone saw coming,” LeMahieu said. “We’re doing what we can.”
