Aaron Boone said Saturday Luke Voit is expected back “hopefully sometime in May. We’ll see how the next weeks unfold.”
Voit underwent surgery Monday to repair a partially torn meniscus in his left knee that had bothered him throughout spring training.
According to Boone, the “surgery went as expected” and the first baseman is rehabbing on a stationary bike.
If the process goes smoothly, Voit will be shut down from baseball activities for another two weeks or so and could return in a “4-6 week scenario,” which would put him in early May.
Jay Bruce made his second straight start at first base Saturday and had a key two-run single in the Yankees’ 5-3 win over the Blue Jays. Mike Tauchman continues to work at the position in case he’s needed there.
Tauchman said he’s been a full-time outfielder since high school, though he played some first base while in summer ball in college.
Still, he’s up for the challenge.
